The canal surface is mostly calm with gentle rippling and strong reflections from the sky and surrounding buildings. The water has a muted green-grey appearance and appears moderately clear for an urban canal. There is very little obvious floating litter, with only a few small pieces or natural debris visible. No obvious oil sheen, foam or other surface pollution can be seen.

Only a small amount of scattered leaf or organic material is visible on the surface. The moored boats and mature canalside vegetation give this section a more enclosed character. The large willow and other established planting provide valuable bankside habitat and shade. Providing useful habitat and helping to soften this heavily urban section of the Grand Union Canal.

Conditions along Queen’s Park Canalside were calm and settled, with very little surface movement and strong reflections of the surrounding buildings, boats and mature trees.
Only a small amount of isolated floating debris was visible, with no obvious signs of oil, foam or significant surface pollution
Established bankside vegetation continues to provide greenery and habitat within this otherwise heavily urban section of the canal.
On the right-hand side, the vegetation is more mature and substantial, with established trees overhanging the towpath and canal. This provides shade, cover and a stronger sense of habitat along the water’s edge. Two coots were using the open water, suggesting that the combination of open water and established bankside vegetation provides a varied habitat for wildlife.
Although the planting is lower and more mixed, there are shrubs, grasses and smaller trees growing directly beside the canal, with some vegetation extending close to or over the water. This creates a more varied bankside edge and can provide shelter for birds and other wildlife.
The surface is again mostly calm, with gentle ripples and clear reflections from the buildings. There appears to be very little floating litter and no obvious foam, oil sheen or other visible surface pollution. Planted areas and established bankside vegetation provide a varied canal edge, with a coot using the water close to the vegetation. Overall, the stretch remained in good visual condition, with no obvious signs of surface pollution.

Looking east, the water surface is mostly smooth with light rippling and clear reflections from the surrounding buildings and boats. The water has a green-grey appearance with moderate clarity. There is very little obvious floating litter

Looking west, the canal is similarly calm, with strong reflections and only minor surface disturbance. The water appears slightly darker in places because of the surrounding buildings and cloud reflections.
