Paddington Arm, Grand Union Canal (Kensal Road Stretch)

Photos taken between 6:04pm and 6:41pm

View from Ladbroke Grove Bridge looking East

Both views from Ladbroke Grove Bridge show a very calm canal surface. The strong, almost mirror-like reflections of the sky, buildings and boats indicate very little surface disturbance at the time this time.

View from Ladbroke Grove Bridge looking West

The most striking feature is the near absence of the dense duckweed mats seen in your earlier photographs. There are still numerous tiny green specks and occasional small fragments of floating vegetation, particularly visible in the eastern view

There is also very little floating litter, and no obvious foam or a convincing oil sheen. The water itself appears green-grey/brown beneath the reflections.

Here, however, there appears to be very little movement, yet duckweed is not accumulating again on the surface.

The surface is almost mirror-flat and the vegetation genuinely appears to be largely absent.

There is a small amount of floating material and occasional leaves, but I don't see significant litter, foam, or a clearly identifiable oil sheen. The water appears greenish-grey beneath the reflections.

Even sheltered areas were clear. The sharp reflections of the buildings, trees and sky indicate little surface disturbance. Yet there is no substantial accumulation beneath or around the tree.

The extremely sharp reflections are also significant. They show that the water was very calm at the time the photograph was taken. Despite that lack of movement, the duckweed has not obviously reassembled into mats. There is a small amount of scattered floating material, individual leaves, small fragments and a few specks but no substantial accumulation.

View from Ha'Penny Bridge looking East

In the photograph above, the surface is overwhelmingly open water. There are only tiny scattered fragments of floating vegetation and a small amount of other surface material. Importantly, There is no obvious oil sheen, foam or other major surface pollution.

View from Ha'Penny Bridge looking West

The photograph above tells much the same story. Again, there is virtually no continuous floating vegetation. There are a few isolated pieces of material and some minor litter or debris, but nothing resembling the extensive green mats.
