The water has a green-grey appearance and is exceptionally calm, producing clear reflections of the surrounding buildings, trees and cloudy sky. There is very little obvious floating litter, and no significant oil sheen or persistent foam is apparent.

Westward there is considerably more floating vegetation. Small green particles and irregular patches are scattered across the foreground and middle of the canal. Some appear to be forming loose clusters, although substantial areas of open water remain.

Water is predominantly green-grey and exceptionally still, with clear reflections of the surrounding buildings, boats and sky. A few scattered yellow and brown leaves are visible, particularly in the foreground, but there is very little obvious duckweed.
There is very little visible floating vegetation. A few isolated leaves and small particles are scattered across the surface, but there is no significant accumulation of litter or duckweed.
The water is almost completely still, with reflections of the residential buildings, boats and mature trees extending across the surface. Small quantities of natural floating material are visible, but there are no substantial mats of duckweed
The mature willow extends over the canal, creating a substantial area of shade. The water is relatively calm, with reflections of the surrounding buildings and vegetation. A few scattered leaves and small pieces of natural material are visible, but there is very little obvious duckweed.
A gentle ripple across much of the surface. There are extensive areas of open water, with only a few isolated pieces of floating material. combination of mature trees, shrubs and low-growing waterside plants creates a well-vegetated canal margin
A discarded plastic bottle is floating close to the left-hand bank. A small amount of additional natural debris is visible nearby. Flowering plants and other vegetation growing in raised beds alongside the pedestrian walkway. The opposite bank also has low-growing shrubs and waterside vegetation, providing some greenery alongside the residential buildings.

The water appears green-grey, with gentle ripples and extensive reflections of the surrounding buildings and cloudy sky. Several Canada geese are swimming near the left-hand bank without any obvious obstruction from floating vegetation.

Most of the canal surface is open, with virtually no visible duckweed. A few isolated pieces of floating material are present, but there are no substantial green patches or mats. Several pigeons are visible along the towpath, and one in flight.
Four Canada geese are swimming in a loosely spaced group near the canal bank. Their black necks, distinctive white chin patches and brown-grey plumage are clearly visible. There is absolutely no visible duckweed.
A single Canada goose appears swimming calmly, producing only a small disturbance in the surrounding water. There is no obvious accumulation of duckweed or filamentous algae in either photograph the water surface is completely open.
