The water has a muted green-grey appearance and is sufficiently still to produce clear reflections. Numerous small green particles are scattered across the surface, particularly in the foreground and along the margins.

Small amounts of floating green material are visible, although the coverage appears less noticeable than in the westward photograph. Vegetation is well established along the residential bank, with shrubs and trees extending towards the water.

The water is exceptionally calm, with clear reflections of the buildings, sky and moored narrowboats. Numerous small green particles are scattered across the surface, possibly duckweed.
Increased distribution of floating vegetation. Small green particles are scattered across a substantial area of the canal rather than forming a continuous mat.
The water is exceptionally reflective, with green floating particles visible across much of the foreground. Some areas contain more concentrated patches, although substantial areas of open water remain.
Small group of Canada geese, numerous tiny green particles are visible across the surface, including beneath the overhanging tree. The water is predominantly calm, with small ripples around the swimming birds.
Small green particles are spread across much of the visible water surface, with slightly denser concentrations in the foreground and towards the vegetated bank. Although the material is widespread, it has not formed thick continuous mats.
Five Canada geese were observed swimming together beneath the overhanging trees along the Kensal Road stretch of the Grand Union Canal. As they moved through the calm water, their wakes created distinctive trails through the scattered green floating vegetation, possibly duckweed.
Gentle ripples extend across the open water. There is a noticeable boundary between the relatively clear central channel and the floating material along the opposite bank. Numerous small green particles are scattered across the right-hand half of the canal, becoming more concentrated towards the vegetated bank. Their appearance is consistent with duckweed.

The water appears green-grey, with gentle rippling and reflections of the surrounding buildings and sky. Small quantities of green floating material are visible. There is very little obvious floating litter, and no significant oil sheen or persistent foam can be identified. In contrast the eastward view has more noticeable surface rippling, while the westward view is exceptionally calm.

The water is exceptionally calm, with very little visible movement. Scattered patches of green floating vegetation, possibly duckweed, are concentrated towards the foregroundforeground, while the central channel remains largely open. A few birds are visible along the towpath, although there is little wildlife activity on the water itself.
