The eastern view shows extensive green floating vegetation/algal material, particularly along the left-hand bank and around the projecting vegetation. Some fairly large continuous patches have developed, although a substantial part of the centre of the channel remains open.

The western view is interesting because conditions appear noticeably different. There is again a substantial accumulation of floating green/brown material along the left-hand margin, but most of the central channel remains visibly open.

patches of floating green material are visible across the surface, with a greater concentration towards the right-hand side. Importantly, it is fragmented rather than forming a continuous mat, and most of the water remains open.
This provides the clearest view of conditions. The water is relatively calm, producing strong reflections of the buildings and trees. Small pieces of what appears to be duckweed or other floating vegetation are scattered across the surface
Conditions again appear predominantly clear of dense surface growth. There are scattered flecks and small patches of floating vegetation, but the great majority of the channel remains open water.
The water is particularly calm, giving strong reflections of the buildings and bankside trees. Small patches of what appears to be duckweed or similar floating vegetation are visible across the foreground, with more material collecting beneath and around the overhanging tree.
Here shows noticeably greater water movement, with ripples extending across much of the channel. Floating vegetation is still visible, especially as a fairly continuous narrow strip along the opposite bank, but there is much less accumulation in the open water.
This shows how sharply floating vegetation can be concentrated along one side of the canal while the main channel remains relatively clear. The centre and left side of the water are predominantly open, with visible rippling indicating moderate surface movement. In contrast, a broad band of green floating vegetation—probably duckweed—is concentrated along the opposite/right-hand bank.

Most of the channel is open water with fairly pronounced rippling. However, there is a dense, bright-green mat around the moored boats and along the right-hand bank.

This shows an even more striking pattern. A long, relatively continuous band of floating vegetation follows the left-hand bank, extending well into the distance.
